External databases
Connect an existing Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL or Oracle database to your Kuika AI app and use its tables next to the app's own data.
Kuika AI can connect your app to a database you already have: Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL or Oracle. The app reads and writes the tables of that database, and the other system keeps owning its structure. Kuika AI never changes its schema.
Add a connection
- Open the Database view.
- Press New connector.
- Give it a Name, such as Erp or Crm.
- Pick the Engine and, if you need one, fill in Schema.
- Paste your Connection string in the form your provider gives you. Kuika AI converts common formats for you.
- Press Test. Kuika AI checks the connection and tells you how many tables it found.
- Press Add.
Your connections appear under Connected databases. If the test fails, Kuika AI says why: a wrong user name or password, a host name that cannot be found, a refused connection (often the wrong port), a server that does not answer (firewall or network), a missing database or a failed SSL/TLS handshake.
What you can do with a connection
- Look at the tables. Open a connection to see its tables as cards or as a relationship diagram, plus the first 200 rows and the columns of each table.
- Use it in your app. Ask Kuika AI in the chat. The AI reads and writes the external tables through your app's code, the same way it uses the app's own database.
- Run SQL yourself. Each connection has its own SQL console for people who can change the app's data. It runs data statements. Updates and deletes ask for confirmation, and anything that changes the structure is refused. Oracle connections do not have a console yet.
Show the customers from my Erp database on a screen with search and paging
What you cannot do from Kuika AI: add tables, edit the schema, or import CSV into an external table. The structure belongs to the other system.
Combine data from two databases
An app can use its own database and one or more connections at the same time. When a screen needs data from both, such as orders in the app's database and customers in your ERP, Kuika AI fetches the related rows from each and merges them for you. Just describe what the screen should show.
If one action has to write to two databases, the AI sets it up so a failed step undoes the earlier ones. There is no single all-or-nothing save across two databases.
Good to know
- In the preview, queries go through the Kuika AI server. One query returns at most 5000 rows, so large lists should be paged. Oracle connections work in a published app but not yet in the preview.
- People viewing a shared preview cannot query external databases.
- Network access. On hosted environments, internal network addresses are blocked. If your database is only reachable inside your company network, ask whoever manages your Kuika AI setup.
- Remove a connection with Remove on its card. Code already generated for it stays until the next regeneration.
MySQL and other database types are not supported.
