Build your first app · Lesson 4/5
Edit by chat and click
Change your app two ways. Describe a change in the chat, or click an element in the preview and edit it directly. Undo anything with version history.

Goal: make changes to your app by chatting and by clicking on the screen, and know how to undo them.
What you will do
- Ask for a change in the chat
- Use Plan mode for a bigger change
- Click an element in the preview and restyle it
- Go back to an earlier version
Two ways to edit
Chat is best for changes in behavior or content: a new field, a new page, a different rule. Click to edit is best for changes you can see: a color, a font size, spacing, a heading's wording. You can mix both as much as you like.
Steps: edit by chat
- Type one clear change in the chat, for example the prompt below. Kuika AI changes only the parts of the app the request touches.
- Watch the preview update. You do not need to reload anything.
- For a bigger change, switch Plan mode on first. Kuika AI drafts a plan for the change. Press "Build this plan" to apply it, or "Discard" to drop it.
On the book list, add a filter for genre and show the number of votes next to each book.
Steps: edit by click
- Press "Edit design" in the preview tools. Now a click selects an element instead of using the app.
- Click an element, such as a button or a heading. A small toolbar appears next to it.
- Change it directly: background, text color, font, font size, alignment, corner radius, opacity or spacing. You can also change the text of many elements right on the screen.
- Describe it instead with "Edit Element" if you want something the toolbar does not offer, for example "make this card show the book cover on the left".
- Ask for ideas with "Regenerate". Pick a direction such as "Try another layout" or "Switch the colours", or write your own.
- Undo or redo with the arrows in the preview tools if you change your mind.
Going back further
Every change is saved in the version history. Open it, find the version you want, and press Restore. You can also Bookmark a version you like so it is easy to find later.
Check yourself
- Which kind of change would you make by chat, and which by clicking?
- Where do you turn on click-to-edit?
- How would you get back to the version from this morning?
Next lesson: Share your app, where other people try what you built.
